The Book Barks is an independent online bookstore dedicated to curated selections of books that expand the mind and soul. Our collection focuses on literary fiction and thought-provoking reads. Our sister brand, The Catholic Shelf, specializes in books on theology, spirituality, and Catholic traditions.rs.
We are an online bookstore with no physical store at the moment. However, we occasionally collaborate with book fairs and events. Stay updated by following us on our social media channels.
All new books are personally curated to ensure a high-quality and meaningful selection. Our collections are chosen to inspire reflection, deepen understanding, and ignite curiosity. For preloved books, while they are not personally curated, we ensure their quality by checking the condition, rating, and reviews before adding them to our collection.
Ordering & Shipping
To purchase a book, you must sign up for an account or sign in to your existing account. When you see the book you want, click on Add To Cart. You will be prompted to enter the desired quantity and select customization options if available. When you have finished shopping, click the Cart button at the top-right corner of the web page. After reviewing the contents of your Cart, click the Checkout button.
Your order is confirmed as soon as it appears in your account under Your Orders. You will also receive a confirmation email containing your order number, and a summary of your products and payment.
You can adjust your order at any time before finalizing the payment. To delete an unwanted item, reduce the quantity to zero in the shopping cart or click on the cross button near the total line of the item you wish to remove. You can also add additional items by browsing the website and clicking Add to Cart, which will automatically update your cart total.
After clicking the Checkout button, you will see your purchase details, along with your default billing and shipping information. To change either, click Proceed to Checkout, where you will be prompted to revise your billing and shipping details.
Currently, we are unable to accept multiple delivery addresses for a single purchase. If you want books mailed to multiple destinations, each destination must be entered as a separate order.
No, unfortunately, we cannot modify an order after payment has been confirmed. Please carefully review your purchase before finalizing payment.
Orders cannot be canceled once payment is confirmed. Please ensure all details are correct before completing your purchase.
Orders will be dispatched within 1-2 business days. Delivery times depend on your location and the courier service. Generally, orders within Java take 2-5 days, while other regions may take longer. We will provide tracking details once your order has been dispatched.
Shipping costs vary based on weight, destination, and the courier service. The exact shipping fee will be calculated at checkout.
Payments
Xendit supports all available payment methods, including OVO, QRIS, credit card, debit card, bank transfer, and bank virtual accounts.
Our payment page directs to an external and secure provider, ensuring that your bank details are encrypted and remain private. You can confirm the security by checking for a small lock icon in front of the website address in your browser.
Your bank account will be debited as soon as your order is confirmed. Your order is confirmed once it appears in your account section under 'Orders' and you receive an email confirmation.
Yes, you can pay with our gift vouchers.
Gift vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase and cannot be refunded.
Your invoices are available in your account under 'My Orders.' Simply click on the relevant order to download and view them.
Returns & Exchange
Our collection includes both imported and donated books. For imported books, minor imperfections may occur due to international shipping and handling.
Donated books are carefully selected for quality, but as pre-owned items, they may show signs of previous use such as slight wear or markings.
We only accept returns for books with severe defects, such as missing pages or major damage that affects readability.
We currently do not accept returns or exchanges, unless we’ve sent the wrong book, severely damaged that affects readability, or the item arrives damaged due to our packing error.
If that happens, please contact us within 72 hours of receiving your order and provide clear proof. We’ll do our best to make it right.
Please note:
- Pre-orders and requested titles are non-refundable and non-exchangeable, as they are specially ordered for you.
- Books purchased during special sales or marked as secondhand/final sale also cannot be returned.

Email us to hello@thebookbarks.com within 72 hours of receiving your order with the subject: "Refund Request – [Your Order ID]". In the body email, include:
- Type of refund: Bank transfer or store credit
- Bank account details (for bank transfer refunds)
- A copy of the original invoice
- A completed return form
- Clear pictures of the defect/damage
Wait for our team to review your request. We will respond within 5 business days to confirm whether your book is eligible for return.
If your return is approved, send the book back to us in its original condition with all packaging and accessories.
For store credit, we will email you a coupon code with the exact value of your returned book.
Please note: The return costs will be your responsibility. The postage fee from the original order will not be refunded, and the customer is responsible for all costs incurred in returning the package to our warehouse.
You have a period of 3 (three) days upon receiving your order to return an item that does not suit you.
Once we have received your return, your refund will take approximately 14 days to allow enough time for us to process the return. You’ll receive a confirmation email once the refund has been processed.
Currently, we are still trying to find a better solution, so please don’t send items from different orders back to us in the same parcel.
To keep the process as simple and quick as possible, please ensure that you make separate return requests for each of your orders by contacting us through our email.
Book Preorders and requests
- All preorders and requests take approximately 4-8 weeks to arrive, depending on various factors.
- Preorders and requests are processed twice a month, on the 15th and 30th of each month.
- If you purchase a preorder item along with a ready-stock item, everything will be shipped when the pre-order is available. If you want the ready-stock item sooner, please place a separate order.
No, once a preorder and request has been placed, it cannot be canceled.
Preorders and request take 4-6 weeks because we source books from international suppliers, and processing times depend on printing, shipping logistics, and supplier schedules.
If your order has not yet been processed for shipping, we may be able to update your shipping address. Please contact us as soon as possible via email.
Delays can occur due to publisher production issues, shipping delays, or customs processing. We will notify you via email if your preorder or request is expected to arrive later than the estimated timeframe.
No, refunds are not available for delayed preorders. If there is an extreme delay (beyond 3 months), we will provide options for store credit.
Your order will be shipped once the preorder/request item is available. If you want the in-stock item sooner, please place a separate order.

We do not provide a personal book recommendation service. However, please note that all our books are personally read and thoughtfully curated.
Yes! We offer gift cards that you can purchase for yourself or others.
Yes, you can request a specific book by chatting with us on WhatsApp. Your request will be categorized as a preorder. Please note that payment for book requests cannot be made through our website and will be processed manually.
